Hydrolate is also called a flower or plant water. This product is created by distillation of whole plants or their parts with vapour. The distillation products of plant material are essential oils and post-distillation water (hydrolate). Such water contains valuable plant ingredients soluble in water and trace quantities of essential oil.
Thanks to this, the hydrolates may be applied directly on skin (in contrast to the vast majority of pure concentrated essential oils). Depending on the plant from which they are extracted, they may refresh, reduce swelling, soothe irritations, moisturize, nourish or strengthen. The pH of most essential oils is similar to natural skin pH and therefore they also demonstrate toning properties.
